3-27-2020 UPDATE
Starting Monday, March 29th, clients will no longer be able to pick up their hot meals at the front entrance. All clients will now be getting a Meals on Wheels delivery. Call us at 816-691-2900 with questions or concerns. If you are not a Don Bosco client, but are 60+ and need lunch, call MARC at 816-421-4980 to start the process (it’s quick and easy to register).
3-16-2020 Our Temporary Closure Notice
Starting Monday, March 16, 2020 the Senior Center will be closed to our senior and adults with disabilities clients for all activities and hot meal service. We will continue weekday deliveries of a hot, nutritious lunch through the Meals on Wheels program to all current homebound clients. Our plan is to expand home meal delivery to seniors who usually come to the Center for lunch. In addition, the Center will continue to offer support for the 9 additional Senior Centers that serve seniors in outlying and rural communities. After getting MARC approval, those sites may transition to individually packaged meals for home delivery to their clients, to replace the meal they usually serve cafeteria-style in their dining rooms.
Even before the current public health situation, older adults were at risk for increased health complications due to a lack of consistent access to nutritious meals. The mission of Don Bosco is centered around meeting the nutritional and social needs of some of our most vulnerable community members. Shifting from on-site congregant meals to an all-delivery model will require substantial financial resources to cover our costs to produce, package, and transport approximately 3,500 meals every week.
As this is an evolving situation, please monitor our website and our Facebook page for updates. For a list of Center and other closures, check the MARC website
Our seniors are depending on neighbors like you, please consider making a financial donation or donating items for homebound seniors.
At this time we are not able to accept volunteers, but we look forward to seeing you when the Center reopens!
